Flood Management at the Environment Agency

Fighting the flood
Coastal erosion and flooding are big problems in the UK. As such, the Environment Agency needed to create a long term management strategy that aligned with the work of other DEFRA groups, local authorities, civil groups and UK communities.
When the EA proposes a strategy, they have a statutory obligation to consult with other risk management authorities and provide a framework for action.
Getting detailed responses from a wide range of third party, private sector and public individuals required a centralised, standardised approach.
Taking a qualitative & quantitative approach
Delib’s survey features allowed respondents to provide a closed and open response to consultation questions, offering valuable insights into the sentiment toward the proposed flood and coastal erosion management plan.
Flooding the future with positivity
345 people responded to the EA’s Citizen Space consultation, providing in-depth thoughts on the proposed strategy. Overall, people were strongly in favour, showing the benefit of the EA’s hard work in encouraging citizen engagement.

“We had very few instances where respondents "did not agree at all". We see this as a positive outcome. We believe this is due, in part, to the significant engagement and partnership working we carried out when developing the draft Strategy. “
