Case Study

Involving citizens in street planning and transport design

The challenge

The City of Edmonton needed to consult citizens about Complete Streets.

Complete Streets is a new approach to planning and designing transportation systems that moves away from the traditional, mobility-based approach.

Our approach

Dialogue provides online public discussion for the people affected by a decision.

Edmonton ran a multi-phase consultation, first developing principles, and then enabling further public discussion to refine the final policy decision.

The results

The ideas generated from public consultation helped Edmonton develop the Complete Streets principles for the city. These principles provided a basis for decision making, and form the basis of Edmonton's Complete Streets policy statement.

Dialogue helped Edmonton develop a Complete Streets policy to offer safe access for everyone: pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, truck drivers and public transportation users of all ages and abilities.
