Work in digital democracy. Make better things. Make things better.

We're Hiring - Sales Consultant (UK)

I need to hire someone to help improve democracy. Democracy is multi-faceted and by extension multi-broken but that doesn’t mean that hope is lost or that people aren’t trying to change things. Delib is part of that change and we want to continue to scale our work and its impact. To do that I need to hire a Sales Consultant.

What’s the job?

The job involves all the usual things you’d expect from B2B selling: approaching potential customers, building a case, providing a demo of our wares, and helping people with buying: formal procurement, contract shenanigans et al. Where the job differs from most is the small matter of the product and the market.

Delib produces digital platforms that help different bits of what you might loosely call government to run ongoing democratic exercises. Certainly not your average sales job, and accordingly we need people with different skills; yes you’ll need to be versed in the art of the deal, but we also need people with a brain, a work ethic, and an eye for the long game.

Our customers appreciate that we sell product in a helpful manner, grounded in an understanding of their needs.

Delib’s sales operations are fairly mature at this point with standardisation of role structure, process and systems, across all territories. As such, this isn’t the right job for someone looking to company build, or if your sales forte is skiing off-piste: we need someone who wants to learn how to win the Delib way.

Who are you?

Not sure, but there’s a good chance nobody wants to play you at Monopoly.

You’ve had a few sales jobs, but felt that some of the old world techniques were showing their age. You want to sell products to people in a manner that doesn’t repulse you, and you hope that the product will deliver something more than bottom-line.

You like to learn about new stuff, find oddly niche things endlessly fascinating, and aren’t afraid to ask - why? Why haven’t things changed? Why do some people lose out? Why is my sales job so awful?

In an ideal world you’ll also have:

  • a few years in a consultative commercial role under your belt, preferably in a B2B environment
  • an appreciation for autonomous working
  • an appetite to learn really rather a lot about democracy
  • flexibility to work with Delib staff in other territories, which can involve early starts or evening calls
  • the ability to explain complex ideas, simply
  • a pedantic respect for grammar, punctuation and proof reading
  • an utter disrespect for business speak (we don’t touch base, even moving forwards)

We need someone who is a doer and who is looking to get involved. We don't need a list of things we ‘should’ be doing; we need you to be an active participant. If there's a problem, you need to be involved in making it go away.

What is Delib?

Founded in 2001, we're helping our customers modernise democratic processes using digital methods, it's a very specialist thing to be doing, and we're a world leader at it.

We're a distributed company. Delib was founded in the UK, and management, engineering, legal and HR are still based from there. The majority of our staff are distributed across the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

This is what some of us think about working here.

This job can be performed from anywhere in the UK with a decent broadband connection.

The job is primarily based at home, but occasionally you will need to travel to see other team members and attend events (when safe to do so).

Most of our staff work at home, but this doesn't suit everyone (for various reasons), so we can provide alternative working space if your local market has affordable space in serviced office suites.

Salary and training

This is a full-time role. We're offering £25k-35k initially depending on experience, with room to grow with success in the role.

We have an intensive sales and product training programme, delivered by senior members of the existing sales team. We expect a consultant to be up to speed within 12 weeks.

Following initial training, consultants are expected to regularly educate themselves on product and market. There is a clear progression structure within the role and within Delib for people who perform.
