I am currently sitting at home in very central Sotland (Carluke) and I am listening on radio Scotland to the Scottish Parliament's Question Time. Why can't I see it live on TV? The question is merely a symptom of a much larger concern that must be addressed by the BBC Trust. Post devolution, there is a wholly different political and indeed cultural context in Scotland. I have not seen the BBC reflect this greater autonomy in any significant manner. There is an urgent need to have a public debate on the programming policies of the BBC with respect to the new Scotland. 'British' as a cultural and political adjective urgently needs redefining. Scotland certainly has changed its capacity for effective autonomy but has the BBC in Scotland?
I am eager to see the BBC in Scotland open a debate on its new role in the light of a new Scotland with new digital technologies in a new media-world
